MotherToBaby Nebraska specialists answer questions from healthcare providers as well as the general public about exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Inquiries are on a variety of topics including prescribed and over-the-counter medications, infections, occupational hazards, common household products, and substances of abuse. MotherToBaby Nebraska is housed at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Meet Our Team

Beth Conover, APRN, CGC

Beth is a genetic counselor and pediatric nurse practitioner. She established the Nebraska Teratogen Information Service in 1986, also known as MotherToBaby Nebraska. She was also a founding board member of OTIS.

In her clinical practice, Beth sees patients in General Genetics Clinic, Prenatal Clinic, and the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Clinic at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Beth has provided consultation to the FDA and CDC. Two of her recent publications are, “The Art and Science of Teratogen Risk Communication” and “Safety Concerns Regarding Binge Drinking in Pregnancy: A Review”.

Amber Tresca, host of the podcast AboutIBD.com, joins The MotherToBaby Podcast host Chris Stallman, CGC, to talk about Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in pregnancy. Chris is also joined by Beth Kiernan, MPH, of MotherToBaby California who helps answer Amber’s questions. IBD conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis may require the managment of medications during pregnancy in order to successfully treat mom, and extra preconception planning. In this second part of the conversation, she talks about certain medications prescribed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
